Claritin Hypertension

Many suspected symptoms of hypertension are also Claritin side effects. Claritin is a common brand allergy relief medicine, an antihistamine. It is either prescribed or purchased over the counter. Many of the documented symptoms that could result from an allergic reaction to Claritin are very similar to hypertension signs.

One common symptom is irregular heartbeats. Some people have had a change in their heart rate after taking Claritin. Many hypertension patients have had similar palpitations. It is unknown whether or not Claritin could be a cause of hypertension, as some have found that their heart rate was faster after taking it. Heart palpitations are nothing to ignore, but if one is taking Claritin, it may not be hypertension.

Another thing that makes Claritin a suspect in contributing to hypertension is that it contains sodium. A person who has been diagnosed with hypertension or is on a low sodium diet, they should consider that Claritin has some sodium content. Most people don’t count their allergy medicine as part of their diet, but this is one time that they should.

A possible side effect of Claritin is drowsiness or dizziness. Many hypertension patients experience a certain amount of dizziness. This is yet another symptom Claritin and hypertension have in common. Blurred vision is also a symptom or side effect of hypertension and Claritin.

Claritin may also cause headaches. If a person is taking Claritin regularly, they may be having frequent headaches. Frequent headaches are another common symptom of people who have been diagnosed with hypertension.

If a person has difficulty breathing, it could be hypertension. Claritin, being an allergy medicine, may also make it more difficult for someone to breathe.

One other final symptom of hypertension is blood in the urine. Some people who have taken Claritin have experienced some discoloration of their urine. This might also be misconstrued as a hypertension sign. Another line of reasoning could be that Claritin is actually causing certain individuals to develop hypertension.

With all of the side effects from Claritin that match those of hypertension it is easy to see how someone would think that they have developed hypertension. It is not very clear why the body could respond in the same way to Claritin as hypertension. It could very well be that Claritin assists in the development of hypertension in some people. Since Claritin does contain sodium, it probably does add to the risk of a person with a sensitive system developing hypertension.

It is highly likely that those who develop these side effects from taking Claritin would be prone to high blood pressure regardless of whether they took Claritin or not. If a person has a poor diet they might already be taking in too much sodium.

Further research has to be done to discover if Claritin in fact does promote hypertension in some individuals. For now, all we can say is that the signs and symptoms are strikingly similar. As of yet, we still can not say for sure that Claritin causes hypertension. If it does, it doesn’t happen to everyone.
